So often the thought of involvement is $$$$ or time (that people don't always have). Simple things to involve the community or families can be as simple as collecting items you might need in the science lab. Plastic bottle that can be used for tornado models. Film containers (some people still use them). The list is really endless and once they warm up to the simple requests you can kick it up...

Has anyone utilized the Gizmos programs. I just moved to a middle school after 10 years in elementary and these "games" seem to be great simulations of labs for the students.
