A fun activity related to science that would get kindergarten students excited to learn is to first read them a book or show them a video related to the unit/topic you are going to teach first. Then you could have them do a small project related to this...for example, if your first unit related to weather, you could have them do a small art project with cotton balls and colorful construction paper...

Great Ideas for Utilizing Outdoors

This article is a great source of ideas that get students, and children in general, involved with the outdoors while learning about natural resources. This source gives you ideas about how to start local and involve your children with learning about the natural resources around them, through going to low-cost places like the park and nature preserves. It also includes great ideas on how to involve learning with summer, while still having fun! One example mentioned is to, "Send students home with a “nature newsletter” with a list of summer to-dos with an outdoor focus".
