Picture-Perfect STEM Lessons, K–2: Using Children’s Books to Inspire STEM Learning
Mon, Apr 24, 2017 12:34 PM
Picture Perfect STEM
I have the opportunity to work with veteran teachers, preservice teachers, as well as elementary school students.
With the STEM initiative at the forefront of education teachers are often uncertain if "this is STEM". Picture-Perfect STEM Lessons addresses this need. Children are highly engaged in the lessons, preservice teachers feel secure with the ready-to-teach format, and veteran teachers can take the lessons and adjust as they need based on their experience with STEM. Using both the fiction and nonfiction books is as always a highly motivating and informative strategy.
I currently use the Picture-Perfect Science series as a text for my science methods class, a professional development training tool, and with educational outreach in the local schools. I look forward to adding in the new Picture-Perfect STEM books this fall.
