My school does not teach science to grades K-3 at the moment in order to catch them up in ELA and math. We incorperate it into our ELA lessons. I am teaching second grade and we use books about different science subjects (animals, enviroments, weather...) as a way to practice reading comprehension. We also use them to have the students do writing assignments.

I think it is important for studnets to get hands on expirence. They also need to be able to try to solve problems on their own in their own way. This will teach them problem solving skills they will be able to use for the rest of their life. Finally it needs to be fun! Nothing will make a student lose interest faster than being bored.
