Maybe doing an activity to what science means to them. Then they can share in a table group. In a classroom we drew what scientist looked like, and it was a fun activity. Everyone practically drew Einstein, and there was a handful of women or children scientist so the discussion opened up that everyone is a scientist.

It depends on where you live. Texans would say it's summer all year round in some cities there. I would listen to their stories and maybe have them match the season it's on. If they've never experienced a snowy day maybe showing a video of kids playing in the snow. Let them make that connection when reading a book to them.

Definitely check with the school and districts policies first. Then if you need more information if an animal is child friendly, visit a nearby pet store, someone who's experienced and knows about the car us such aquatic animals may help you out.
