This article is a great read! It discusses how Interactive Science Notebooks are great tools for students to use to access knowledge. I love how it is stated that teachers should take their own approach when it comes to implementing ISN into their own classroom. I have seen many teachers use ISN throughout the year and I find that students always have a great time working through them. Assessment of an ISN should be up to the teacher. There is no right or wrong way to assess an ISN but feedback is crucial on a regular basis when students are working on ISN. Robert Chesbro does a great job at explaining how he implements ISN into his classroom and how he assess and uses them throughout the entire school year.

This article discuses how it is important to embed assessment into a unit instead of just an end-of-unit assessment. Formative assessments are a great tool because the assessments are an integral part of teaching. This article does a great job at explaining what good embedded assessment looks like. I like how this article also explained how there are many assessment activities that can become apart of effective teaching activities and many effective teaching activities also are very useful sources of assessment data. Embedded assessments do a great job at identifying if there are any misconceptions occurring or if a student is not understanding a concept. Collecting this data and then forming instruction around the students needs will better benefit all students in the classroom and the teacher. This article provides many examples for ways to implement an embedded assessment method into effective teaching. Two methods that really stood out to me were using experiments and activities to engage students in the material being taught and to challenge their thinking and using individual writing tasks to get a good understanding of what the individual student is thinking. Embedded instruction can help with students involvement in lessons, the level of engagement the students have for the lesson, and more motivation from the students.
