Better Designing investigations

A great alternative to the same old labs. Reading out loud, and voicing student opinions based on evidence, is brought out in this teaching method of argument driven Inquiry in Biology. Engaging students in their learning and addressing their own interests in science will help for students to deepen their understanding of different biology concepts. For instance, by collecting actual data of Great White shark migrations, students will be able to better understand why Great White sharks travel long distances. Using cross cutting concepts, scientific processes, literacy and math connections to investigate and argue answers narrowing their reasons based on relevant actual data.

Family Science Fun

Engaging the entire families of my students would be fun to bring students and families together on zoom to attempt these activities. Having a scavenger hunt breakout room with science trivia and modeling science concepts where families compete against each other are especially fun to build student enthusiasm for students. I would like to fire up my students about science this year whether we meet in person or work virtually. Looking forward to trying some of these activities with my students this year in Bio and Chem. Activity materials lists and teacher background are available for some activities.

Create Family Fun nights over zoom

This article is full of fun ways to create enthusiasm for science amongst my students. It would be awesome to host a family science night with students in our classes and their families where they may compete in trivia, break out room scavenger hunts and creating science models competition with household items. I was thinking of incorporating this into my classes, for them to compete against each other or amongst families using zoom. Lists of materials needed and teacher background are provided here.
