My name is Carolina Hernandez, I was born and raised in Miami, Florida and I am 20 years old. This is my first semester at FIU and I am an Early Childhood major with hopes to get my masters in speech pathology. I have 5 other siblings and big loving family. I enjoy traveling and shopping and my favorite thing to do on my downtime is reading a good book. I am truly enjoying my experience at FIU thus far and cannot wait to see what the the future will have in store for me!

Hi, In my personal experience I am completing field hours at an Elementary School where some of the teachers that teach grades K-1 teach science and soical studies every other week. The students learn language arts and math every week and then every other week science and social studies are incorperated into the lessons.

Review of Safety First

This article was extremely informative and helpful, every elementary school teacher should go ahead and read this article and add it to their library. Safety in the lab is extremely important and is a step in lesson planning that should not be skipped. As a teacher you must be organized, manage your time and be prepared to handle a situation properly in the case of an emergency. In the classroom always be sure that the safety posters are visible and that you review the safety precautions before teaching an experiment. Safety contracts must also be sent home and signed by the student and parent. This contract will ensure that the student and parents are aware of all the precautions that need to be taken the day of the experiment.
