Editor’s Note: Approaching Adaptation
Fri, Dec 08, 2017 9:51 AM
Promoting Conceptual Understanding
I appreciated that this article outlined misconceptions that students have about adaptations. Adaptations do not occur in 10 or even 20 years but rather over many generations. This teacher's approach to teaching adaptations was creative and interactive. I think that students fully embodied their learning and were able to internalize the meaning of adaptations. Although students may have been frustrated, I think that the activity demonstrated adaptations in relation to the human body, which helped students form conceptual understanding and application of knowledge. As a teacher I want to create interactive and dynamic activities that challenge my students to think about greater concepts and real life application.
