What I have done in the past was incorporate a "weather checker" duty as a job in my morning messages/daily activities. I would choose a student's name each week and have them look out the window and check the weather. Depending on what they saw, we would dress up a laminated cutout bear on the morning wall with the appropriate outdoor clothes.

In the past I have done a science activity on Energy in motion by having students group up and giving each group a pie pan with three different colors of tempera paint in it and a lid. Students would then have a marble they would place in the middle and place the lid back on and shake away. That would be when we would discuss energy in motion and connect it with the activity. Creating a Schoolyard Mini-Garden

After experience the multiple educational benefits of creating a garden in a schoolyard setting can bring to a school, I can not imagine any school not wanting to incorporate one in their environment. Hearing that it's a growing movement leaves me feeling overjoyed that I might see more gardens sprouting up in my local community. In this articles they give several great suggestions on how to make/grow a garden in a school that has limited fundings. They also cover key questions that anyone who hasn't grow a garden in the past might ask.

It was surprising to read that there are high school students that don't consider air as matter. I enjoyed the suggestions in the article that can help teachers narrow in on what materials would be considered matter.
