What I have done in the past was incorporate a "weather checker" duty as a job in my morning messages/daily activities. I would choose a student's name each week and have them look out the window and check the weather. Depending on what they saw, we would dress up a laminated cutout bear on the morning wall with the appropriate outdoor clothes.

wow! what a great way to do engage students on the materials that will be using throughout the year. Maybe with older students you can make the clues into a riddle question.

In the past I have done a science activity on Energy in motion by having students group up and giving each group a pie pan with three different colors of tempera paint in it and a lid. Students would then have a marble they would place in the middle and place the lid back on and shake away. That would be when we would discuss energy in motion and connect it with the activity.
