Family science night sounds like a great idea! In the fall it gets dark rather early. Students could go outside with their families to see what happens when it gets dark. For example you could stargaze or look at the different types of bugs that come out in the evening. Parents and kids would have tons of fun doing this!

The school I am in is the same way. To get the most out of your 15 mins you have to get the lesson going right away. Having the students in small groups will help with this because they can get more in depth with what they are learning than in a whole group. Also by having the students in a small group you can walk around and monitor their science learning. Students love being in centers and works...

Students love to watch videos on brain pop. It is super engaging and the students love it. It has tons of different topics. It is a resource that you can use year round.
