Resources and Human Impact Collection

This collection includes a variety of lesson plan ideas and resources that can be used when discussing resources and the human impact on the environment. The eBook, Resources and Human Impact, is a great place to start to review the topics included in this collection. Some lessons, Tabizi Pythons & Clendro Hawks, review some basic topics about population and ecosystems. Some lessons discuss population changes, human impact, and sustainable resources. Social Justice can be integrated into the curriculum using ideas, like Environmental Justice.

Climate Change

This collection provides a variety of resources to use when teaching students about climate change. This collection includes the NSTA press book and chapters from Understanding Climate Change, Grades 7-12, which outlines a series of lessons to instruct students on this topic. There are also several articles that single lessons to teach students about this topic. One article describes several practices that should be used when teaching about climate change. Lastly, Oceans Effect on Weather and Climate science object is a great resource for teachers to use to refresh their knowledge on climate change and the different contributors to climate change.

Hi Caitlin, I just finished student teaching sixth-grade science. I did a few science demonstrations while teaching virtually! Resources and Human Impact

I am a student teacher who is very passionate about the environment so I enjoyed completing this eBook. It includes extensive details on a variety of topics, such as population change and sustainable energy. Each of these topics is relevant to students' lives. The eBook includes a variety of real-life examples that can be integrated into classroom lessons, such as the changes in salmon population. I look forward to using the knowledge I acquired from this eBook, as well as other resources on NSTA to better future lessons on resources and human impact. These topics are very important for students to understand to make change.

Great Interdisciplinary Lesson Idea!

This lesson provides a series of interdisciplinary lessons that can be used to encourage students to think about the big issues related to the interaction between humans and the environment. I really love how this resource provides lessons for each subject area. This can help students clearly see the importance of each subject area on their lives. The final project allows students to target areas of interest by giving them different options, like poems and cartoon strips. One of the biggest challenges with implementing this lesson that I forsee is the time and collaboration required to integrate it into the curriculum of each subject-area class. The article provides several time lines that teachers can follow in order to try to mitigate this issue. Overall, these lessons introduce students to very important, relevant topics that need to be discussed to encourage change.
