Life Science
Uncovering Student Ideas in Life Science will be used as the primary teaching tool for this unit. The teacher will gather prompts, questions, and ideas to use in their teaching throughout the unit. Everyday Life Science Mysteries will be used as one portion of a lesson in the unit. The teacher will use a life science mystery to have students work on independently so that they can show what they know. Another section will be used as the students summative assessment as the end of the unit. The Magic School Bus video will be shown on the day of the plants lesson in the Life Science unit. The coloring worksheet will also be done as part of that lesson and the finished products will be displayed int he classroom or on the bulletin board in the hallway.

Earth and Space
The teacher will play the Magic School Bus video the day before beginning the lesson on earth and space science. The teacher will have them write down one thing they learned about space from the video to turn in as a ticket out the door.
The students will talk about Pluto no longer being a planet using the textbook provided ("Science 101: Why is Pluto no longer a planet?") The students will then dive into learning about the layers of earth using the textbook "All Cracked Up: Model of Earth's Layer" and draw a diagram labeling each layer.
The students will learn the order of the planet song and its movements to energize and excite them as they are headed towards assessment time. The teacher will also show them the board book "Solar System" so that they are able to visualize the order of the planets and learn facts about each one.
The students learning will be assessed by the solar system model they create and the written response they hand in with it.

I love this resource! Thank you for sharing this! Using this in a lesson on earth and space would really help get students interested in what is right outsidetheir doors, while also presenting them with oppurtunities to explain to those around them what they have learned! I imagime students would love to use this! I plan to download it now!
