This article is an excellent resource for both elementary and middle school ELAR and science teachers. It is so important for departmentalized teachers to understand that integration of content areas is essential for a deep understanding of content. This article gives suggestions for helping students tackle the academic reading involved in Science. This is especially important strategies for our struggling readers, because we do not want to simplify the vocabulary rather we want to teach students how to understand these rigorous informational texts.
