Glenn Branch makes the case for a call to action from science teachers in this article. The author does a great job providing a brief history of the repeal of the Butler Act, and why that remains important today. He makes his case by giving data from some of the nation's most credible science journals. One of the most surprising statistics Branch points out is that almost a quarter of the States have been criticized for teaching evolution. This shows a discrepancy in science education- 99% of actively researching scientists and PhD biomedical scientists support evolution. The author does a great job giving the readers statistics regarding criticisms about evolution, but does not go into as much detail for combating the situation as a science educator. He gives some words of encouragement, but more statistics could be used here. Perhaps the author could show us if teaching evolution effectively has any benefits in other sciences.
