From Reading To Science: Assessment That Supports And Describes Student Achievement

by: Peter Afflerbach

This chapter is based on a presentation made to the National Science Teachers Association’s conference on assessment, “Science Assessment: Research and Practical Approaches for Grades 3-12 Teachers and School District Administrators”, held in November 2005. The author structures the chapter in relation to two questions: (1) How might assessment practice from other disciplines inform high-quality science assessment? and (2) What are the challenges and accomplishments of student assessment in the different content domains?
