This column shows how to use discrepant events to confront misconceptions. In this month’s discrepant event, students learn about the environmental impact of two
kinds of packing peanuts. Students then identify an environmental problem within their own home, school, or community and develop
ways to address the problem and minimize human impact on the environment.
