Wacky Weather

by: Amy Sabarre and Jacqueline Gulino
edited by: Linda Froschauer

An integrative science unit combines science content on severe weather with the engineering design process (EDP). The purpose of this unit is to interweave science content on severe weather with the EDP. The unit includes concepts such as properties of materials, connections to architecture, and the relevance of engineering to our lives. This unit will provide an example of intentional integration of the Next Generation Science Standards core ideas and practices. Goals include: conducting and applying research; analyzing charts and graphs of weather data to determine type of severe weather; planning, creating, testing, and evaluating the team’s design; and identifying weather instruments and interpreting the measurements. A materials list, teacher background information, assessments, and outcomes are provided. This book selection includes the Table of Contents, Introduction, References, Internet Resource, and Index.
