Lesson Plan 4: Swing Set Makeover Design Challenge

by: Carla C. Johnson, Janet B. Walton, and Erin Peters-Burton

This lesson serves as the capstone of the module and challenges students to complete their swing set makeovers. The science and mathematics activities guide student teams through building a model of the proposed designs. Students use the engineering design process (EDP) to take their sketches to physical form. In English language arts (ELA), students document this process and discuss the reasoning for their design choices and the benefits of their designs in a classroom blog. A materials list, teacher background information, safety practices, Internet resources, and outcomes are provided. This book selection includes the Table of Contents, About the Editors and Authors, Acknowledgments, and Index.
