The problems in this chapter ask students to identify basic needs of living things and to describe simple life cycles of animals, plants, and fungi. The problems involve students in a number of science practices included in the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). In this problem, students learn about the development of tadpoles and wasps and compare their life cycles with life cycles of mammals. It focuses on animals that undergo metamorphosis—frogs, wasps, and bees. The problem can be modified to compare other insects that metamorphose (butterflies, moths, and mayflies). A materials list, teacher background information, safety practices, references, assessment, and outcomes are provided. This book selection includes the Table of Contents, Preface, Catalog of Problems, Acknowledgments, About the Authors, References, and Index.
