Is It Erosion?

by: Page Keeley and Laura Tucker

The purpose of this assessment probe is to elicit students’ ideas about erosion. The probe is designed to find out whether students can distinguish between erosion and weathering. When rock material is broken down or changed, but not transported to a new location, the process is called weathering. When the soil or broken down rock material is moved away and carried to a new location, the process is called erosion. This probe can be used with grades 3–12, and can be used with the card sort strategy. A materials list, teacher background information, references, assessment, and outcomes are provided. This book selection includes the Table of Contents, Foreword, Preface, Acknowledgments, About the Authors, Introduction, and Index.
