Circle Time

by: Peggy Ashbrook

In this chapter, the objective of the activity “Teach and Tell” is to develop a routine for class discussion about science topics that will support children in contributing to the group, listening to each other, interacting cooperatively, learning from each other, and asking questions. Chapters 1 and 2 are also included in this book selection. Chapter 1 focuses on science inquiry and the use of “The Early Years” column to support science and engineering learning. Chapter 2 focuses on assessment and the value of assessing children’s learning to understand how to make teaching more effective. It has an example of an assessment tool showing sequences of children’s science behavior in early childhood, with related scientific and engineering practices. A materials list, teacher background information, references, assessment, and outcomes are provided. Also included in the book selection are the Table of Contents, Acknowledgments, Introduction, A Word About Safety, and Index.
