Conducting Research on Current Climate Change Topics

by: Laura Tucker and Lois Sherwood

This session leverages the power of student discovery, viewed through the lens of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), to support students’ awareness of the complex nature of a warming planet. Students begin the session by forming research groups and selecting climate change–related topics. Each group investigates their chosen topic in order to develop a deep understanding of it. Teachers may choose for students to develop independent investigations to model their topic, as well. A materials list, teacher background information, assessment, safety considerations, standards, references, and resources are provided. This book selection also includes the Table of Contents, Foreword, About the Authors, Acknowledgments, Information for Teaching This Unit, and Index.
