Trains Through Time

edited by: Carla C. Johnson, Janet B. Walton, and Erin Peters-Burton

This lesson provides information to enable students to identify the connection between the westward expansion of the United States and the proliferation of train travel. Students are also introduced to information about the railway engineers who are responsible for train design. Students continue their study of magnets in this lesson by a mini design challenge—the Magnificent Magnet Match—in which student teams build and race magnetic boats. A list of materials, teacher background information, safety notes, standards, assessment, Internet resources, and references are provided. This book selection also includes the Table of Contents, About the Editors and Authors, Acknowledgments, Appendix, and Index.
