The Thrill of the Ride—History and Psychology of Amusement Parks

edited by: Carla C. Johnson, Janet B. Walton, and Erin Peters-Burton

This lesson launches the module by having the students examine photos, watch a video of an art project with extreme amusement rides, and view the accompanying website, which connects how particular characteristics of physics and engineering are used in amusements to generate emotions in people. They then elaborate on this baseline knowledge to investigate the history of amusements, note improvement to technologies and innovation, and connect the types of amusements with human psychological triggers.. We recommend reading Chapter 3, which is included in this book selection and provides a module overview and summary. A materials list, safety notes, standards, teacher background information, assessment, references, and Internet resources are provided. This book selection also includes the Table of Contents, About the Editors and Authors, Acknowledgments, Appendix, and Index.
