In this lesson, students explore the last two bridge designs— the suspension bridge and the cable-stayed bridge. While these bridges both use cables to support the road deck, they do so in different ways. Through research and experimentation, students compare and contrast the characteristics of these designs and begin to determine their ideal locations. Suspension bridges have been used for many years but cable-stayed bridges are the most modern design. We recommend reading Chapter 3, which is included in this book selection and provides a module overview and summary. A materials list, safety notes, standards, assessment, teacher background information, Internet resources, and references are provided. This book selection also includes the Table of Contents, About the Editors and Authors, Acknowledgments, Appendix, and Index.
