This case study contains a summary of a study on seahorse tails. In this lesson, students consider how researchers studied seahorse tails and then they work together to think of new ways in which the structure can be used to solve real-life problems. They learn about the unique properties of a seahorse’s tail and how the shape and structure of the tail is being used to develop new products. They build and test their own flexible yet strong structures. This case can be used as a way to integrate engineering into lessons on physics concepts such as force, compression, torsion, gravity, and motion, as well as to discuss adaptations, form, and function. A materials list, teacher notes, teacher background information, safety notes, standards, assessment, resources, and references are provided. This book selection also includes the Table of Contents, About the Authors, Acknowledgments, Introduction, Appendix, Image Credits, and Index.
