Do the Objects Need to Touch?

by: Page Keeley and Rand Harrington

The purpose of this assessment probe is to elicit students’ ideas about electric forces. It is designed to reveal whether students recognize that electric forces can act at a distance without direct contact. The probe is best used with elementary students. It’s important that students know that one object is electrically charged and that they understand that by touch, it means that the two objects come in direct contact with each other. A materials list, teacher notes, standards, assessment, safety notes, and references are provided. This book selection also includes the Table of Contents, Preface, Acknowledgments, About the Authors, Introduction, and Index.
