Does It Matter if the Wire Has Knots?

by: Page Keeley and Rand Harrington

The purpose of this assessment probe is to elicit students’ ideas about the flow of electric current through a wire. It is designed to reveal the limitations of analogies students use to explain the flow of electricity. The probe is best used with middle and high school students. It can be used with elementary students for observational purposes, without expecting them to explain it from a particle level. A materials list, teacher notes, standards, assessment, safety notes, and references are provided. This book selection also includes the Table of Contents, Preface, Acknowledgments, About the Authors, Introduction, and Index.
