Economically Disadvantaged Students and the Next Generation Science Standards

edited by: Okhee Lee, Emily Miller, and Rita Januszyk

Teachers of economically disadvantaged students will have to narrow the achievement gap while also meeting the higher expectations presented by the new standards. In this chapter, effective teaching strategies for economically disadvantaged students are presented. The vignette of high school chemistry instruction with economically disadvantaged students highlights how these strategies facilitate understanding of disciplinary core ideas, science and engineering practices, and crosscutting concepts as described by the NGSS. Teacher background information, standards, assessments, and references are provided. This book selection also includes the Table of Contents, About the Editors, Contributors, Preface, and Index.
