Promising Professional Learning: Tools and Practices

edited by: Jack Rhoton

This chapter, by Rodger W. Bybee, James B. Short, and Dora E. Kastel, explores professional learning strategies and emphasizes the importance of assessing instructional materials for both quality and Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) alignment. A case is also made for supporting professional development leaders by providing them with the necessary tools and processes. Finally, four different sets of tools are described that support professional learning for NGSS alignment—all of them centered on identifying, selecting, and designing high-quality instructional materials aligned to NGSS. Teacher background information, standards, assessments, references, and resources are provided. This book selection also includes the Table of Contents, Foreword, Preface, Acknowledgments, and Index.
