Natural Hazard Quest!

edited by: Carla C. Johnson, Janet B. Walton, and Erin Peters-Burton

In this lesson, students continue to explore natural hazards and connect the impacts with effects on animals’ homes. They investigate earthquakes as an example of a natural hazard caused by phenomena within Earth. Working in teams, they use the engineering design process (EDP) to design and build structures to withstand a simulated earthquake. They conduct research on a natural hazard and present their findings to the class. We recommend reading Chapter 3, which is included in this book selection and provides a Module overview and summary. A list of materials, teacher background information, safety notes, standards, assessments, references, and resources are provided. This book selection also includes the Table of Contents, About the Editors and Authors, Acknowledgments, Appendix B, and Index.
