Marsh Madness: What’s Your Plan for the Bullfrog Pond?

by: Sami Kahn

In this lesson, suggested for grades 3-5, students investigate the ecological relationships between living and nonliving components of a wetland and collaboratively determine the type, extent, and consequences of nearby development. They learn about and model wetland dynamics through readings and a checkpoint lab. Finally, students role-play different constituencies as they try to determine a development plan for a wetland area. Before beginning the lesson, we recommend reading Units I and IV, which are included in this book selection. A list of materials, teacher background information, safety notes, standards, assessments, references, and resources are provided. This book selection also includes the Table of Contents, Dedication, About the Author, Acknowledgments, Appendix, and Index.
