Aircraft Catapult

by: Milton Huling and Jackie Speake Dwyer

This chapter features Physical sciences StEMT lessons. Ramps and sliders are common tools to help students understand the fundamentals of Newton’s laws. The Explore activity included is a typical Newton’s Second Law activity, but other concepts, such as inertia and friction, can be studied with this same setup. Depending on grade level, state standards, and ability, the teacher’s choice of Explore activities preceding the engineering design challenge may be slightly different. The engineering design challenge is a culmination of many attempted activities that resulted in varied results. A list of materials, teacher background information, standards, safety notes, assessment, and references are included. This book selection also includes the Table of Contents, Foreword, Preface, Acknowledgments, About The Authors, About Our Approach, Connection to Standards, Conclusion, Appendix A, and Index.
