Recognizing and Accepting New Challenges for STEM Education

by: Rodger W. Bybee

STEM is popular and widely accepted, but initiatives need to evolve past a simple slogan to have a lasting and meaningful place in American education. In this chapter, an approach is proposed that maintains, and could even improve, the presence of STEM. The chapter concludes with several points of view for STEM education, perspectives based on a belief in the potential for STEM to be a new model for the education community. This perspective is supported by the fact that many contemporary issues are STEM related. There is a clear and compelling new case for STEM education, and the roles and responsibilities for STEM should be clarified for the educational community. Teacher background information is included in this book selection, as well as the Table of Contents, Preface, Acknowledgments, About the Author, References, and Index.
