Democracy, Schooling, and STEM Education: Building on the Cultural Foundation

by: Rodger W. Bybee

Democracy and its processes are themes that unite and support the need for STEM as a basic component of American education. The STEM disciplines and education all exist within society and are sustained by democratic processes. As we consider whether and how to reform STEM programs, this chapter shares several priorities that STEM educators must envision. The goal of democratic common schooling is evident in a widely stated theme in the current reform—education for all students. Teacher background information is included in this book selection, as well as the Table of Contents, Preface, Acknowledgments, About the Author, References, and Index.
