What Are Teachable Moments, and How Are They Created?

by: Rodger W. Bybee

This chapter serves as an introduction to the primary themes of teachable moments and the BSCS 5E Instructional Model. First, there’s a discussion of teachable moments and then a summary of the instructional model. The model provides teachers with an approach to teaching that changes the emphasis within lessons and provides a sequence that increases the probability of teachable moments. Chapter 10 is included in this book selection and provides background on how implementing the BSCS 5E Instructional Model is one means to achieve the professional goal of improving student learning. Teacher background information and references are provided. This book selection also includes the Table of Contents, Preface, Acknowledgments, About the Author, Appendix 1-5, and Index.
