What Can We Learn About Conceptual Understanding by Examining the History of Science?

by: Richard Konicek-Moran and Page Keeley

This chapter focuses on the history of science and its importance to anyone teaching for conceptual understanding. Even though the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) do not include the history, this does not mean it’s not important to embed historical perspectives into the curriculum. It can enhance and contribute to an understanding of the core disciplinary ideas of science. Reflection questions are provided at the end of the chapter, as well as suggestions for available NSTA resources. Teacher background information, standards, and assessments are included. This book selection also includes the Table of Contents, Preface, About the Authors, Introduction, References, and Index.
