Mary Ann Campbell's review of Dear Ms. Guadalupe: Letters to My Librarian. "Preparing for a Museum Outing" Reviewed in the United States on September 1, 2026 Format: Paperback Our school (Round Valley Learning Academy) is in Wallsburg, Utah. Utah is one of the world’s richest locations for dinosaur fossil discoveries. Students have opportunities to visit nearby museums and actual digs. Ms. Vermillion’s book Dear Ms. Guadalupe is the perfect way to prepare students for a field trip! After listening to the story, students discussed what they liked about the book. Everyone liked the story, the characters and the illustrations. They also practiced writing letters to the author. Many of the letters started out Dear Ms. Vermillion, Thank you for writing Dear Ms. Guadalupe. This book is highly recommended by our students.

Dear Ms. Guadalupe is such a clever book. Kids will eat it up! Vermillion humorously captures the wonder of childhood and skillfully opens the door to learning. In content and style, Dear Ms. Guadalupe is layered with topics of elementary study: paleontology, letter-writing, and research methods. Science teachers will appreciate the researched information about the Texas dinosaur. Literacy teachers will find the epistolary format a useful guide for teaching letter-writing style and format. Librarians will love the model for asking and answering questions through research. And children will delight in their own smarts as they solve the mystery of the dinosaur before Joey, the main character. I'm delighted to have discovered such a perfect mentor text for my elementary school students!
