Next Generation Science Standards: Critical Components for Implementation at Scale, October 27, 2025

The Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) provide the field of science education with the vision that all students in K-12 engage in science and engineering as scientists and engineers do in their professional work. Therefore, fairness, opportunity, and learning for all students are cornerstones in successful NGSS implementation. In addition, successful implementation of the NGSS requires attention to four critical components: curriculum materials, classroom instruction, formative and summative assessment, and professional learning for teachers and school administrators.

Topics Discussed:

  • How a teacher makes science investigations relevant and fair for all students to meet the NGSS.
  • Current and future approaches to classroom assessment aligned to the NGSS.
  • How teachers’ beliefs and confidence regarding their science instruction change while participating in professional learning over time.
  • Why schools of science education should provide professional learning opportunities for teacher education faculty on how to work toward fairness and opportunity in the classroom.

All individuals receive a certificate of participation and 100 NSTA activity points for attending the live seminar and completing the end-of-program survey. A certificate of participation is not awarded for watching the recorded version of the program.

We invite you to register for upcoming web seminars at NSTA.
