Being part of a PLC (professional learning community) for a high school Environmental Science course provides many opportunities to implement STEM/ STEAM activities. The learning curve for being able to discern high quality content to add to my course can be steep. To keep students of today interested and engaged, lessons with STEM components are a must have. Developing critical thinkers who have a desire to be life long learners is the overarching goal for my students. NSTA is a must have for guidance and support to make this type of learning possible.

As a middle school science educator, being a thoughtful and critical evaluator of STEM instructional materials requires carefully choosing resources that engage students as active participants in the learning process rather than passive recipients of information. I will focus on selecting materials that encourage inquiry, sensemaking, teamwork, and the application of knowledge to authentic real-world challenges while making connections between scientific concepts and students’ lives and communities. By analyzing STEM resources based on their level of rigor, relevance, and inclusiveness, I can design meaningful learning experiences that foster curiosity, develop scientific reasoning, and empower students to view themselves as confident STEM learners and effective problem-solvers
NSTA Press produces classroom-ready activities, hands-on approaches to inquiry, relevant professional development, the latest scientific education news and research, assessment and standards-based instruction.
