Archive: The Third Decadal U.S. Carbon Cycle Science Plan, June 4, 2026

Science Update logoThe Third Decadal U.S. Carbon Cycle Science plan is developed in partnership with the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR), Cooperative Programs for the Advancement of Earth System Science (CPAESS), and the U.S. Carbon Cycle Science Program (CCSP). This plan is a community driven document highlighting the science needs and priorities for the upcoming decade. Two previous plans have been published in 1999 and 2011, and the third plan will be built upon the previous.

The Carbon Cycle Science Planning documents provide U.S. funding agencies with information on long-term community-based research priorities for carbon cycle science.

All individuals receive a certificate of participation and 100 NSTA activity points for attending the live seminar and completing the end-of-program survey. A certificate of participation is not awarded for watching the recorded version of the program.

We invite you to register for upcoming web seminars at NSTA.

Below are comments from individuals who attended the seminar:

  • "I appreciated how the seminar highlighted the importance of integrating carbon cycle science into broader climate and policy frameworks. The most interesting part was seeing how decadal planning connects scientific priorities with actionable strategies."
  • "I enjoyed learning about a topic that I was not very familiar with. Although I had heard of the carbon cycle before, it was rewarding to explore the concept in greater depth and gain a better understanding of its importance to our environment."
  • "I liked seeing all the different resources that were available and getting direct links to them. It was interesting to hear about this 10 year carbon cycle plan as well."
  • "I really liked that this webinar was packed full of resources that I can look over through out the summer and implement next school year."

A certificate of attendance was deposited into participants' account page for completing the evaluation form at the end of the program.
