Science notebooks can take many different forms. The important thing to remember is that they should provide a place where student experiences, data, and language can come together to form meaning. This can happen when daily entries lead to conceptual understanding. Notebook organization is a tool to facilitate conceptual understanding. Checklists, peer checks, open-notebook quizzes, and rubrics can be used to facilitate students' accountability for their notebooks. Noteooks should be a vehicle for assessing student understanding and should be shared.
