Social Studies: Humans and the Outdoors

by: Steve Rich

The history of humans interacting with the land is the perfect context for a number of outdoor learning experiences. Humans have relied on the Sun to tell time or on plants to provide food sources, shelter, and clothing. Science as a human endeavor and the history of science are important for students’ ability to relate science and social studies. This chapter provides ideas for getting started in relating history, geography, and social studies.
