The real case studies explore many options and describe how to surmount some hurdles that may exist. The community connections offered as support systems will surely enable many teachers to design and to present plans for student-build-and-maintained schoolyard environments. They empower students to take science out into nature and form connections among multiple learning areas. Tamberly Conway , Conservation Educator Coordinator from the US Forest Service introduced us to Polilinator LIVE and ways this program is involved with school gardens.
Mark Bolmar's presentation on an Earth Day Garden at Ashland School, Manassas VA highlighted ways inquiry based learning and student involvement connecting service and learning can happen in a garden project
Mike Hill , USFS Sustainable Operations , DC Office compared three gardens in Bailey's School in Fairfax VA. Mike took us through the development of a Courtyard Garden at the center of the school ,a pollinator garden including an art fence project and the design process of creation a garden space based on the Fibonacci Pattern.
