This is a nice pre-assessment or probe to help see the level of understanding the students have before you begin your lesson(s). There is an answer key with explanations. I like that the benchmarks being included in the explanations. They offer a lot of related research for different age groups as well as reasoning behind some misconceptions for those age groups. After the assessment and the research they have suggestions for instruction that offer basic ideas for instruction that is focused on observation first, then phases of the moon, followed by creating a model of the solar system as the students progress in grade levels. Overall this is a nice assessment with ideas to get you started on a lesson plan for a unit on our solar system.
