I found this article to be interesting since I just finished teaching Earth Science. I could agree with the author on the fact that elementary students are not ready to discuss the detailed nature of how planets orbit the Sun. Although students need to know that planets do orbit the Sun, in 4th and 5th grade, they do not have the mathematical skills to be able to calculate the actual speed and distance of the planets revolution. This article confirmed to me that it is necessary to teach elementary students about how planets move in the same direction, and at different speeds and on their own axis. It let's me know that I am teaching something right!
