By using the writing process to explore science, students and teachers can find new ways of clarifying, revising, and consolidating knowledge. To achieve this goal, try using The Writing in Science Wheel activity described in this article. The Writing in Science Wheel graphically organizes the five elements in writing for learning science—topic, purpose, audience, production method, and format—and the tasks and demands within these five elements (Hand and Prain, 1996).
