Through the inquiry, in this chapter, students work to answer the question, What happens to the motion of a slider when different forces are applied? Teams of students play a game of “classroom curling”—a loose adaptation of the sport of curling. During the game, students try to change the direction of an object, making the game a natural lead-in to investigations into forces and motion, the focus of this unit. Students connect what they have learned to the activities described in the book Newton and Me. To close the inquiry, students apply what they have learned to improve their classroom curling skills.
