In “The Magic Mirror” lessons described here, children explore reflection and mirror phenomena in the environment. They make a mirror, explore a hinged mirror with its many images, and look at symmetries. The activities create great interest among children, do not require much prior science knowledge or preparation from teachers, and use common materials. In addition to science inquiry, the lessons give ample opportunity for language development (communicating observations), arts and crafts, and mathematics skills (spatial skills, symmetries). Throughout these lessons, children can deal with mirrors in their own way and at their own level.
